The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the illustrated supplement «Dovkola svitu», published in Lviv in 1930–1931 as a supplement to the weekly newspaper «Nedilia» (1928–1939). The relevance of the study stems from the lack of specialized scholarly works devoted to this periodical despite its significant place in the system of the Ukrainian press during the interwar period. The aim of the article is to identify the thematic, genre and structural features of the supplement and to determine its role in the development of Ukrainian journalism and visual communication during the interwar period. The methodological framework of the study is based on both general scientific and specialized methods, including analysis and synthesis of scholarly sources and periodical materials, the historical and comparative method, content analysis, and descriptive methods. The study provides the first comprehensive scholarly analysis of «Dovkola svitu» as an independent object of research. It identifies the thematic structure, genre features, and functions of the periodical within the system of the Ukrainian press during the interwar period, as well as clarifies its significance for the shaping of the Ukrainian informational and cultural space. Conclusions. The study demonstrates that «Dovkola svitu» combined informational, cultural-educational, pedagogical, and ideological functions. Its content was primarily based on photographic materials covering international political events, social processes, scientific and technological achievements, as well as issues related to Ukrainian public organizations, education, sports, culture, historical memory and Polish-Ukrainian relations. The dominant photographic genres included photo news, photo portraits, photo essays, and photo landscapes. Brief yet expressive captions and headlines enhanced the impact of visual materials and guided readers’ interpretation of current events. The study argues that «Dovkola svitu» represented an innovative type of illustrated periodical publishing in which the combination of visual and textual content served not only to inform and entertain but also to shape national consciousness and public opinion.
